Plant it forward.
VISION
A world where all people recognize their connection to nature and one another and are empowered to fulfill their responsibilities as global citizens.
MISSION
To cultivate socially conscious leaders by deepening young people's connection to nature.
About
Chicas Verdes is a Los Angeles–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering young people to recognize their connection to nature, their communities, and themselves. Through hands-on gardening, environmental education, and community action, we help youth grow as leaders while cultivating green spaces that nourish both body and spirit.
Founded in 2017 by a high school teacher and her students, Chicas Verdes began as a small garden club and has blossomed into a thriving program reaching hundreds of students and families each year. We partner with schools and communities to design, build, and sustain gardens that serve as outdoor classrooms, food sources, and hubs of connection.
Our programs are rooted in environmental justice, addressing inequities in access to green space, healthy food, and environmental education. Through our school gardening competition, workshops, and leadership development, students gain practical skills, confidence, and a sense of responsibility as global citizens.
We envision a world where all young people — regardless of where they grow up — feel empowered to care for their communities and the earth.
